Nonresidents are required to hold a current license in their home state. Nonresidents are exempt from the continuing education requirements provided they have completed the requirement in their home state.

Tennessee Continuing Education Requirements!
All insurance producers licenses will be renewed for two years. The continuing education requirement will be 24-hours, at least 3-hours must be Ethics.
If CE is not received in the Agent Licensing Section prior to the expiration date, your license will be cancelled. It is advisable to get 12 hours or more of CE so you will not be behind for your next renewal.
State Filing Fees: Tennessee imposes a $1.00 roster fee for each CE hour completed. Your invoice will include this filing fee, which CE providers are required to pay on your behalf.
NEW Reporting Schedule: The Tennessee Department of Insurance is transitioning to State Based Systems (SBS) for all reporting procedures. The State Based Systems will not accept CE credits between 02/12 - 02/22. Your CE credits will be reported on 02/23/10.
License Renewals
Currently, an insurance producer renews his/her license prior to the anniversary date of the issurance of the license. Effective immediately, producers will renew their licenses before the last day of their birth month. Note that all renewals in 2009 will occur prior to the last day of the licensee's birth month regardless of when the producers renewed or was licensed in 2007.
CE credits may only be obtained from a state approved provider. The courses may be held in a classroom, or completed on a self-study (correspondence) basis. For self-study courses, the final exam does not have to be monitored.
Repeating Courses - Courses may not be repeated within 3 years from the original completion date.
Carry Over Courses - A maximum of 12 hours may be carried over to the next reporting period.
Every insurance producer must complete 24 hours of CE every two years except for the following .
CE Exemptions:
CE for producers selling Long Term Care Insurance - Effective immediately, any producer not licensed to sell long-term care insuance prior to July 1, 2008 must complete a one-time, eight (8) hour training course in long-term care insurance approved by the Department prior to selling any long-term care insurance product in this state.
Those who are licensed to sell long-term care insurance products prior to July 1, 2008 must complete this course by July 1, 2009. After the initial eight hours, producers who wish to continue to sell long-term care insurance are required to complete an additional four (4) hours of continuing education every twenty-four (24) months, unless you are exempt from continuing education requirements on the date of the renewal of your license. The long-term care continuing education courses may be counted towards meeting a producer's twenty-four (24) hour continuing education requirements.
